I've never had a dress custom made before. How do we start?
It starts with a free consultation where we will discuss your wedding and style ideas. I will do some sketching for you, show you some fabric options and together we will come up with a design for your dream dress. Once we have settled on a design I will email you a quote along with a sketch of the dress we discussed.
Should I try dresses on before meeting you?
This is completely up to you. I have had brides who have no desire to go to a bridal salon and try on dresses and I have had brides who have tried on every dress imaginable. Although I don't think you need to try on 50+ dresses I do think it is a good idea to try on a few dresses so you have an idea of what dress styles you like the best. With custom the sky is the limit so it is nice to have a few ideas of what you like and don't like.
Do you have sample gowns to try on?
Although I do have a few sample gowns I have designed for creative shoots I do not have racks of gowns to try on like a traditional bridal store. Each gown I make is 100% unique and made for a specific bride. My sample gowns are really for inspiration and to see the quality of my workmanship.
How long does it take to make a wedding dress?
Around 8 months is ideal but it depends on my schedule and the timing of your wedding. I take on a limited amount of gowns each year so during peak wedding season (May-September) the more time the better to avoid disappointment as I do book up. I have made dresses in a very short time frame before, so it never hurts to ask if I am available.
How many fittings should I expect?
Every dress is different but on average it takes 3-4 fittings. There is no limit to fittings though. It takes as many as needed to make sure your dress is perfect.
How much does a custom dress cost?
This really depends on what you are looking for and the type of fabrics you choose. An average gown is around $2800-$3200.
Do I need to supply a pattern and/or fabric?
No, I make all my own patterns based off your measurements and will source and purchase all your fabrics.
How do I know I am going to like my dress?
Your dress is a process and you are involved in every step. From the initial sketch to your last fitting your happiness is my top priority. If you are not happy, I am not happy. If you are really unsure there is the option of having a mock up of your dress made in muslin first at an additional cost.
Did you make your own wedding dress?
Yes, I did! I designed a 2 in 1 style gown for my wedding dress. It had a detachable ballgown skirt that was easily removed so I could dance the night away in a slim fitting dress. You can see some pictures of my dress here.
What are your current COVID safety measures?
Fortunately we are back to business as usual. I am still offering virtual consultations to start if preferred. Masks are optional. If you would like to wear a mask please let me know and I will happily wear one as well. I will have hand sanitizer available upon arrival and will disinfect all touch points before and after your appointment.
